Major Gifts Officer


Primary Duties: Develops and executes a major donor fundraising strategy, cultivates, solicits, and leads stewardship efforts. Works closely with the Executive Director, Director of Development and Development Committee of the Board to increase the school’s financial strength and advance the strategic objectives of the organization.


Hours: Full-Time; 12-month

Holy Family Day Home is a 501(c) (3) organization celebrating over 100 years of providing child care and family support services in San Francisco. Located in the Mission District, Holy Family Day Home is the oldest child development center in the City. We provide affordable, high quality early education in a stable and nurturing environment primarily for the working poor.  More than half of our families earn incomes less than 75% of the state median income and about 20% of our families come to us from the homeless shelter system. 

Holy Family Day Home is breaking the cycle of poverty with quality early childhood education and by providing families with comprehensive support services in our Coming Home Family Support Center.  By supporting the entire family over an extended period of time, the Day Home ensures the health and stability of the family and launches children on a path of upward mobility


Position Summary:
The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for securing large outright or planned gifts from individuals. Major gifts are defined as commitments of $20,000 or more. Such gifts may be sought for capital, endowment, or expendable purposes. Major gifts will be solicited on behalf of Holy Family Day Home for the Embrace-a-Child Scholarship Program, endowment or capital projects. This person will be responsible for producing a viable major donor strategy plan to secure new gifts and commitments. In the process, the Major Gifts Officer will be expected to work cooperatively and strategically with the Executive Director, development colleagues and members of the Development Committee of the Board of Directors.

Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Develop and execute a major donor fundraising strategy for Holy Family Day Home and lead stewardship efforts, including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors. This work includes:
· Research and identify leadership giving prospects
· Identify and implement strategies to increase support from existing donors
· Solicit gifts from leadership donors when appropriate and promote various giving opportunities to Holy Family Day Home donors, including funding of special projects
· Work closely with the Director of Development to develop major gift solicitation materials for fundraising efforts and to develop communication tools to promote individual giving
· Cultivate prospects through special events and other exclusive opportunities and implement strategic follow-up strategies
· Attend development-related and other volunteer gatherings in an effort to partner in the implementation of fundraising strategies with volunteers
· Generate and incubate ideas for new revenue-generating strategies for the organization
2. Serve as the primary relationship manager, staffing the Executive Director and board for cultivation efforts and solicitations.
3. Work in close partnership with Executive Director, Development Director and Board of Trustees to solicit major gifts from key constituencies
4. Work with Director of Development and the Executive Director to formulate and expand Holy Family Day Home’s planned giving program
5.  Initiate and coordinate plans to honor major donors.  


Qulaifications/Education/Experience:

  • Three years of progressively successful fundraising experience in a related organization with a proven tract record in major gifts. Success includes enlarging major gifts donor pool and moving donors to higher levels of giving.
  •  This position requires superior communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Some experience and knowledge of planned giving program.
  • Strong computer skills including donor tracking software, MS Excel and research databases.
