Our Coming Home Family Support Center actively addresses the most basic needs of families in transition
so that their children will arrive at school each day prepared to
learn.
As was noted by the eminent psychologist, Abraham Maslow, successful
early childhood development depends upon meeting a child's most
basic needs safety, security and nutrition first.
Only after these needs are met can genuine learning occur.
HFDH partners with and supports our families who may be experiencing times of added stress. Coming Home Family Support Center provides a stable, consistent,
and nurturing environment which, accumulating day by day, significantly
ameliorates the negative consequences of poverty and social injustice
and offers family members hope for a more positive future. We have learned
to incorporate the entire family, parents, guardians, siblings and
others in each childs community in the process of his/her
education.
We have developed an effective response and communication team
to work with families. Our Case Manager, two Intake Coordinators,
Mental Health Consultants, two Site Supervisors, Community
Health Advocate, as well as our Reception and Kitchen staff work to
provide day-to-day support, services and referral information for
further community assistance.
Coming Home Family Support Center services
can include:
| |
Individualized support and advocacy services |
| |
Workshops on topics such as nutrition, childhood illness, and parenting skills |
| |
Assistance in the form of vouchers or gift cards
that may be used at Safeway, Goodwill, or Target Stores |
| |
Our excellent Kitchen staff also supplements on-site
breakfast and lunch food service with nutritious take-home items when available |
| |
Clothes and other household goods
(often from generous donors) |
| |
Annual hearing, vision and dental
screenings at no cost to the children or their families |
All of this effort is focused on our firm belief that healthier,
stronger, more competent families mean healthier, stronger, more
competent learners. That is the goal of Coming Home Family Support
Center.
